Established 1979
Our Heritage
Harris Cabinet Design is a family-owned and operated business with deep roots and a passion that’s grown stronger over time. Our story began in 1969 when our founder, Gary Harris, took a leap of faith into the construction world — with no prior experience, just a strong work ethic and the determination to succeed.
Gary got his start working alongside Jack Campbell, a seasoned professional who quickly recognized Gary’s natural talent. On his very first day, Gary completed a full day’s workload in half the time. Jack later described Gary’s work as some of “the best he had ever seen,” and from then on, Gary became his right-hand man. After three years of learning the trade, Gary was ready for something more — and in 1972, he founded his own company, Harris Construction, right out of his home garage.
With just a table saw, sander, and hammer, Gary began crafting custom trim and woodwork by hand. As he worked across job sites, his interest in cabinetry grew — and so did his skill. By 1976, demand had outgrown his home setup, and the first dedicated workshop was built to support production.
In 1979, Gary’s children began showing interest in the family trade, and the business was renamed G.H. & Sons Co. to reflect its growing legacy. As the years passed, his sons took on bigger roles: Bill joined the business in 1991, followed by Bart Sr. in 1999. Recognizing an opportunity to specialize, Bart steered the company toward cabinetry — a turning point that shaped our future.
By 2001, the company officially rebranded as Harris Wood Products, focusing entirely on crafting premium woodwork. Just two years later, the business had outgrown its second shop. In 2003, a larger workshop was built on the family’s farmland just outside the Kansas City metro — the very place where we still operate today.
In 2023, a new generation stepped into the story. Bart Sr. and his sons, Bart Jr. and Brett, rebranded the company as Harris Cabinet Design, honoring both the family’s heritage and the custom cabinetry niche that had become its signature.
Today, Harris Cabinet Design is proud to be Kansas City’s premier choice for luxury cabinetry and fine woodwork. We’re honored to collaborate with some of the region’s most respected custom home builders and interior designers, with our work featured in award-winning homes across the metro.

1. Concierge

2. Consultation
Every project begins with a one-on-one consultation. We take the time to understand your goals, style preferences, and functional needs. During this meeting, we’ll discuss your overall design vision and provide expert insight and inspiration to begin shaping your custom cabinetry and woodwork.
3. Design & Renderings
Once the concept is aligned, our design team transforms your ideas into detailed 3D renderings using state-of-the-art software. These visuals allow you to fully envision your space before production begins. We review the plans together in person, making refinements as needed to ensure every detail is just right. Once finalized and approved, we move into the next phase.
4. Precision Check
Before production, we conduct an in-home precision check. This involves hand-marking exact cabinet placements and ensuring every measurement is correct. This extra step guarantees a flawless fit and smooth installation later — it’s just one of the ways we go above and beyond for quality control.
6. Production
Your approved designs are then brought to life in our workshop, where traditional craftsmanship meets cutting-edge technology. Our skilled artisans work with only the finest materials to build each piece with exacting detail and care — delivering the timeless quality Harris Cabinet Design is known for.
7. Delivery & Installation
Once production is complete, your cabinetry is carefully transported by our team for installation. Our own expert installers — not subcontractors — handle every detail to ensure the final product is installed precisely as intended. Hardware and finishing touches are completed with the same commitment to excellence that has defined our company since day one.

The Absolute Best
These guys have been the absolute best! The design team is amazingly knowledgeable. They really listen and work hard to make sure you get what you want even when you’re not sure what you want lol! They think of details that never would have crossed my mind. The best part is the quality of the finished product. I’ve used them for two projects so far and both times the builds were beyond my expectations. It’s truly heirloom quality and you can tell they go above and beyond on the tiniest detail. They take a lot of pride in their work which is sadly something hard to find these days. Thank you all!
